‘heritage I / heritage II’ addresses the adaptation and integration of people into Western culture, questioning the cost of assimilation and the persistence of being perceived as “other.” The installation employs hair extensions, lacquered wood, plexiglas, and LEDs as symbolically charged materials that evoke identity, transformation, and control. Through their interplay, the work explores how conformity is both encouraged and resisted, and what is gained or lost in the process.
