Gated Community’ investigates the structures of exclusion that shape contemporary identity. At its core, a framed NFL jersey holds garments associated with nationalist and patriotic movements, emblazoned with the word ‘white’ in Gothic script. What first appears as a symbol of belonging and pride uncovers itself as a marker of division and control.
The work reveals how ideals of purity and protection become mechanisms of segregation. How communities build invisible walls to preserve dominance under the guise of unity. ‘Gated Community’ invites reflection on the boundaries we inherit and enforce, and on the persistent will to keep the “inside” clean, safe, and white.
